Pasted Coderaw

I
am writing in response to the advertisement posted on
ChicagoPlays.com for a Digital Assets Director. In reading the
description of the job, I felt an instant affinity for the position
described. I have spent most of my adult life working in theater and
being a part of making productions come to life has always been
something I've loved. Throughout that time, I've also spent much of
my free time working on web development and site design.

I've
been lucky in that I've always been ale to pay my bills with jobs I
was passionate about. I hope to be able to continue to do so. However
as I've matured, I've found that the schedule and energy level
required by technical theater is something I'd rather devote to my
young son and my wife. While I know that I will continue to pursue
that as a hobby, I find that I would like to follow my other passions
as I make my living. This is why I find the Digital Assets Director
position so compelling.

I
have built and designed web sites for more than 10 years, and have
managed my own domains for more than 5 years. For the last year and a
half I have been a member of the Project Management Committee for the
Habari Project, an open source content management system. This has
allowed me to participate in many aspects of web development
including coding, documentation, analytics, marketing, design and
user interaction. I've learned that web technologies change quickly
and my desire to continuously keep learning allows me to stay on top
of the changes and to learn quickly what I don't already know.

I
would love the opportunity to discuss the opportunities available
with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. I feel that this position fits
well with my goals and skills and that I can bring a unique
perspective to the role. A combination of theatrical background and
web experience seems to be what we are both looking for.
